Corazon Modern Kitchen

Located in charming Downtown Brea, Corazon Modern Kitchen brings a new twist to authentic Mexican food by showcasing flavors from the Michoacán cuisine. Corazon is a space that exudes modern vibes with an eclectic menu that includes gastronomic traditions from Mexico using a menu that displays daring yet delicious flavors.

The first thing that catches your attention in this restaurant is the eccentric artwork of Frieda Kahlo. Lots of large canvas paintings full of vibrant colors and emotion. Even the walls of the restaurant have loads of personality and give great contrast to the comfortable furniture throughout the space. The lighting was modern and ample.

Cocktail Menu

Guests can order cocktails at their table or in the lounge/bar area. The sound of handcrafted cocktails being shaken provides the background. You will find a variety of Baja California Wines, craft beers and several winearitas.  We opted for the lighter version of a winearita. My husband had a Tamarindo winearita complete with pulp, hibiscus, lime juice, and agave wine poured in a large glass with a Paprika-salt rim, mint and chile de arbol garnish. I had the Corazon winearita with  Fresh lime juice, agave nectar, splash of orange juice and agave wine. It was served in a highball glass with a kosher salt rim and lime wheel.

Dinner Menu

I was thoroughly impressed with the dinner menu as it is significantly larger than the lunch menu.  I had the option of choosing a variety of Mexican dishes that had me drooling as I read each one. We started off with the appetizer called “Trio Dewl Mar”. It had salmon tartare,  ceviche, and aguachiles de Lobster. Holy Moly it was delicious and had so many flavor profiles. It comes with these crispy mini blue tortillas that serve as a vessel to your mouth. This dish was so fresh and was served chilled.  The cucumbers give it that extra crunch if you are not using the tortillas.

Next up were our main dishes. We order the chefs sizzling fajitas and wow is this dish aesthetically pleasing to the eye! it comes out sizzling with Jumbo shrimp, chicken and carne asada, on a bed of peppers and onions, served with rice and beans. Choose flour or corn tortillas. The portion size was huge and we took half of it home.

I enjoyed the Rojas chicken enchiladas.  I loved how they plate it on this dynamic and beautiful plates so your food just pops! It had three marinated chicken with two-cheese blend enchiladas topped with red sauce, crema fresca, radish, queso cotija, and cilantro. Served with rice and beans. The cream sauce really gave it that extra zing.

I wanted something to wash it all down with so I had a blackberry winearita this time. I loved this one. It had fresh lime juice, fresh blackberries agave nectar, aztec chocolate bitters, pomegranate, pineapple juice and agave wine. All poured in a large glass with a sugar rim, lime wheel and basil. My tastebuds were very happy.

Dessert

The desserts at Corazn are compact and easy to share. The choices are

  • NY Cheesecake Flan
  • Abuelita Tiramisu
  • Tres Leches Cake
  • Maria’s Daily Choice
  • Mini Dessert Flight
  • Dessert Flight

We had the tres leches cake and it was served in a mini dessert glass layered in between sweet and juicy strawberries. Even though we were stuffed from dinner this was a nice way to top off our meal. We shared it and it was gone in just a couple of bites.
